Seven Tips to Make Your Bedroom Look Great

The bedroom can be one of the most important rooms in your home, and it’s also often the one you spend the most time in each day. Whether you’re using it as an office or reading in bed at night, there are many ways to make your bedroom look great. Here are ten tips to get you started.

Choose the right bed

There’s no such thing as a bedroom that looks great without a bed, so choose yours wisely. When looking for a new bed, consider its functionality and comfort—you want something that’s going to help you get a good night’s sleep. What may look good on your Interest boards might not be right for your needs.

Wall colour

A darker shade of paint is often a good idea when choosing a colour for your bedroom. Black, grey or brown all make a room feel more restful, which is ideal if you’re having trouble sleeping. Additionally, look into using dark curtains as they can also help create a darkened space and hide any clutter that may be in your bedroom. If you don’t have enough light to be able to see easily, it’s unlikely you’ll want to spend much time in there – so ensure that your bedroom gets enough sunlight. You could also think about investing in dimmer switches for lights so that you can control how bright or dark it feels at different times of the day. This might help with setting an atmosphere while still letting you sleep during daylight hours!

Flooring and rugs

Many homes are furnished with carpets or rugs, which are all well and good, but they can be a little bland. If you want your bedroom to look great, try pulling up that carpet and lay down a nice hardwood floor. Just make sure it’s not cold in your room; otherwise, you might find yourself sleeping on top of it. Speaking of which…

Storage space

One of our favourite ways to make a bedroom look great is by adding extra storage space. This can be something as simple as making use of under-bed storage, or it could be a whole wall unit or closet that you’ve added. Stashing away your clothes and other items will give your room an uncluttered look and will add much-needed space for guests. You can take some ideas from Korean style bedroom.

Lighting

Lighting is essential, says Karyn Gershenson, author of The Joy of Interior Design and co-host of HGTV’s Design Solutions. You want to light on all sides. Use at least two table lamps if possible (rather than a one-floor lamp). Ideally, you want a light next to your bed that you can use for reading and a couple of other spots where you can sit in a chair and read.

Decorating ideas for around the room
